Employee Benefit Podcast

3.7

The topic discussed in this podcast is should you give the interviewer for a potential job an estimated salary if they ask what is your expected pay. I chose this podcast because I have unexpectedly encountered this question on interviews and was unsure how to respond properly. According to Andy in the podcast it is not wise to give the interviewer an expected salary because it is unwise and uneducated on the interviewee's behalf. The interviewee does not know what the job entails concerning the day to day workload, the training and development opportunities, or the benefits, which makes it difficult to estimate an expected salary. As Andy highlighted it is also unwise for the interviewee to give an expected pay rate because he/she may lowball themselves or price themselves out of the actual salary range. Instead, Andy advises that the interviewee choose not to give a solid number and instead inquire more about the company and the requirements of the job. Respectfully, the interviewee can say, "while compensation is an important aspect I would like to learn more about the company and the position to determine the value as a whole". He also advises not to get discouraged if you do not give a number, as long as your background appears appealing on paper you will not lower your opportunity of being hired. I appreciate his advice because I once low balled myself and the employer paid me less than what the position actually hired for. Also this is great advice for moving forward for future interviews.

Tax Simulation

3.3

This simulation was intended to learn how to file a child tax credit. The child tax credit allots a certain amount of money per eligible child as a tax "break". As a mother I am familiar with claiming a child tax credit on taxes.
